The second show of the year for me and Xilla was in Västerås on 28 April. The entry was 19 adults, and 16 showed up. Judge was Elina Haapaniemi from Finland. Finnish judges are known for being quite strict so I was very happy when Xilla won the bitch champion class and then the best bitch competition.
In the BOB competition Xilla was up against the current topp-winning chow in Sweden, the red rough male Ch Long Feng Linus Caldwell. You can imagine the joy and happiness I felt when the judge handed mer the red-yellow BOB rosette!!
In the group there was an Italian judge and my guess is Xilla was a little too elegant for his liking, so we were not shortlisted. However, a smooth bitch going BOB over a rough male is quite an achievement, so I am over the moon with the day!!
This is what the judge thought of Xilla (translated into English):3 years old red smooth. Beautiful general appearance. Very well shaped head. Good sound and dark eyes. Good ears. Good front, body and hindquarters. Well set tail. Moves with good strides.Excellent 1, CQ, best bitch, BOB

The first show of the year for Xilla was the national show in Sundsvall on 8 April 2018. Judge was Peter L Jensen from Denmark and the entry was 17 (2 puppies + 15 adults). 10 adults showed up.
Xilla showed beautifully, as usual and because there was also a judge trainee in the ring, I was happy to show him a smooth as well, as Xilla was the only smooth there.
Xilla won her class (only entry) and also the best bitch competition, so she was up against Monika Karlsson's blue rough dog CH Dgulideil Earl Grey for BOB/BOS. The dog was BOB.
This is what the judge thought of Xilla (translated into English):3 years old. Feminine all over. Excellent type and size. Smooth coated chow chow. Harmonious in proportions. Nice head. Good expression. Skull, stop and muzzle go well together. Excellent ears, eyes, bite and pigment. Enough scowl. Good angulations in front and rear. Good topline. Wellset tail. Chest, ribcage and hindquarters of good substance. Excellent coat and colour. Good temperament. Excellent movement in front and rear.
Excellent 1, CQ, best bitch, BOS

On 27 August 2017 I showed Xilla at the national show outside of Märsta (close to Arlanda airport, so there were planes passing by every now and then). 12 chows were entered and 10 showed up – one puppy and nine adults.
Judge was Nina Lönner Andersson from Sweden and this was her first time judging chows. She was very impressed with my smooth Dutch beauty and placed her first in champion class, first in best bitch competition and finally BOS to the top-winning black rough dog Jack who was BOB.This is Xilla in the ring.
This is what the judge thought of Xilla (translated into English):Wonderful bitch. Full of quality. Excellent proportions. Wellshaped head. Lovely expression. Excellent topline. Well angulated. Wellshaped ribcage. Excellent legs and feet. Moving extremely well. Well presented!
Excellent 1, CQ, best bitch, BOS

Xilla won the CAC in Norrköping and therewith qualified for the Swedish champion title. On 22 July she was entered in champion class for the first time, in Köping and judge was Swedish all-round judge Benny Blidh von Schedwin. This was actually the first time he judges chows, at least in Sweden.
Six champion bitches were entered but only four turned up on this day. Xilla was the only smooth and to my great joy she won the class! In a big best bitch competition, 10 bitches, Xilla placed third, which I was more than happy with!
This is what the judge Benny Blidh von Schedwin thought of her (translated into English):Well balanced and well bodied bitch. Well shaped head. Well placed ears. Lovely expression. Good neck. Short in body. Good topline. Well set tail. Good front. Typical angulation. Good stride, a little loose in front. Excellent quality of coat.
Excellent 1, CK, best bitch-3, r-cacib
On 6 August it was time for next show, this time in Svenstavik. Judge was Ambjörn Lindqvist from Sweden and the entry was a mere 4... and 3 turned up. The other two chows got very Good and Good, so when Xilla got Excellent and CK (CK is CAC-quality and is needed for the dog to go on and compete for BOB) I knew she was the Best of breed of the day!! She also won CACIB, her third but all in Sweden, so we need to abroad to win more CACIB to complete the C.I.B-title.
In the group Xilla was not placed, but we were still so happy for the BOB!!Here is a video clip of Xilla from Svenstavik
This is what the judge Ambjörn Lindqvist thought of Xilla (translated into English):Excellent type. Excellent proportions. Lovely head and expression. Well shaped eyes. Well placed ears which gives the correct aloof expression. Excellent neck and topline. Well carried tail. Well bodied. Typical angulation for the breed. Could have more pendlum gait in rear. Excellent coat. Excellent temperament.
Excellent 1, CK, best bitch, cacib, BEST OF BREED

This year there were two international shows in Stockholm, where the first was on Friday 2 December and the second on Sunday 4 December.
I had entered Xilla and Gaia and I was hoping for Xilla to win her qualifying CAC for her Swedish champion title on either of the shows. Gaia tagged along just to keep Xilla company. Neither of the bitches were in the best of coat, even though Gaia was a lot better than Xilla.
On Friday Hanne Laine Jensen from Denmark was judging 12 chows (16 entries, but 4 absent). Xilla did not win the CAC this day, partly because of her coat condition, but Gaia impressed the judge enough to be placed 3rd in the best bitch competition.
On Sunday Mr Luis Pinto Teixeira frpm Portugal was judging an entry of 23 chows (18 present and 5 absent) and I had high hopes for my smooth girls. This judge placed Kryddan as runner-up for Best Veteran in Show at this show five years ago, so I knew he liked a good smooth...
Xilla was again placed second in her class, so no CAC this day either, but we will come back next year, in full coat!
Gaia however placed first in champion class, beating the current top winning bitch in Sweden! I was so happy with this! In the Best bitch competition I was even more happy and very surprised when the judge pointed at Gaia as number one!!! Wow, Gaia not only was best bitch, she also won the title Swedish Winner 2016 (SE V-16)!! Oh and she won her third CACIB!!
Now we were going to compete with the best dog for BOB and BOS. The judge had us taking several rounds in the ring before he gave the red-yellow BOB-rosette to Gaia!!!! Wow again!! It's not easy for a bitch to beat a dog, but a smooth bitch winning over a rough dog is even more unusual. I am still over the moon with this win and after this I asked the judge if he remembered a smooth bitch he made BIS-2 veteran five years ago, which he did, so I told him that Gaia is a great grand daughter of that bitch (Kryddan).
Xillas critique on 2 Demeber, judge Hanne Laine Jensen (translated into English):Lovely all over. Feminine with well developed body. Short body. Well shaped skull with good eyes and ears. Marked stop. Muzzle is strong enough. Good bite. Well carried neck. Strong topline and good tail. Normal angulation in front. Typical in rear. Good bone and feet. Efficient movement. A little unstable in hock. Coat not in best condition.
Xilla's critique on 4 December, judge Luis Pinto Teixeira:Quite good proportions. Correct scissorbite. Clean eyes. Good flat
skull. Quite good set of the ears. Good front and topline. Normal
angulation behind. Moves well with good set of tail.Excellent 2, CQ (CAC-quality)
Gaia's critique on 2 Demeber, judge Hanne Laine Jensen (translated into English):Feminine. Well developed body. A little long. Lovely head and expression. Sound eyes. Good muzzle. Well carried neck. Strong topline and good tail. Well angulated in front, typical in rear. Could have stronger bone. Typical movement. Good coat.
Excellent 1, CQ (CAC-quality), best bitch-3
Gaia's critique on 4 December, judge Luis Pinto Teixeira:Quite good proportions. Correct mouth. Clean eyes. Good flat skull.
Good set of the ears. Good front and feet. Good topline. Quite good
angulation behind. Moves well with a good set of tail.
Excellent 1, CQ (CAC-quality), best bitch, CACIB, Best of Breed,
Swedish Winner 2016 (SE V-16)

I had entered Gaia and Xilla to the international show in Sundsvall on 16 October. I had hoped they would both be mated and in whelp and therefore couldn't be shown, but things didn't turn out that way this time...
Judge was Arvid Göransson, a Swedish judges that I had never shown under before. He was nice with the dogs and exhibitors and seemed to like Xilla a lot. She behaved very well (as usual) and got Excellent and won the intermediate class with CAC-quality.
Gaia was one of three in the champion class and she was quite unfocused and therefore didn't show as well as she usually does. She got Excellent but because the judge thought she's quite long (can't argue with that) she was placed third and didn't get CAC-quality.
In the best bitch competition Xilla placed third and won the reserve-CAC. This is not a bad result at all, but Xilla has almost got me used to bigger wins, so of course I would have hoped for more...
Two more shows this year and they will both be in the beginning of December. Then Xilla will have the chance to complete her Swedish champion title...
Xilla's critique (translated into English):Excellent type. Dry and lovely head but still typical for the breed. Healthy eyes. Good ears. Good topline. Typical and strong hocks. Good bones. Good angulation.
Excellent 1, CQ, best bitch-3, R-CAC
Gaia's critique (translated into English):Excellent type. Healthy eyes. TYpical expression. Strong topline. Good croup. Well developed ribcage. Good angulations in shoulder, thighs and hocks. Typical movement.
